Student Council (Distinction badge)

Distinction badge Can-do

Student Council

Today I didn't have Student Council, because of Literacy week and the Leaders had to go around each class to get some photos of three or four students reading there book, which is why I couldn't do it and I am really annoyed, but next week the year 8's aren't going to be a school, because of Wellington which is bad too.

The things that I found on the Minutes was that we had to go back to the classrooms and talk to them about what we talked about in Student Council.

This is a review of what Kyla has put down so far
Student Council Minutes
When it comes to the next Student council meeting I am going to be there,  because I need to and, because it is one of my leadership roles and it is why I got chosen by the class and I really need to go or it will be really bad for me when I have now idea what is going on and it is near the end of the year and I need just to go.

The learner quality that I showed was turning up on time.

The leadership that I showed was doing the right thing in Student Council.

Parliament (NZ Identity)

Parliament

This term we have been learning about Parliament. We have looked at the difference between government and parliament, NZ parliament, who is in government, how our government works and we compared democracy to dictatorship.

Three things that WE learned are NZ parliament are:

  • Where all the people sit in parliament e.g Our prime minister sits in the 4th seat
  • What all the people do in Parliament e.g Sargent at arms removes any members that are being overly rowdy
  • Before a law it becomes a law it was called a bill.

Explaining the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Being a good house leader

Today we had another assembly. This one was a very a good one for me. The class that was hosting this assembly was by Room/s 15,16 and 17 (The Juniors classes). We started off by singing our school Waiata with everyone doing the action excepted the leaders. After singing, we went onto doing the certificates. It started with doing the Leadership badges, but there were none, but I did get to up and get my Science which took me a long time to get and I finally got it. After doing the certificates we went onto looking at what Room/s 15,16 and 17 have been up to.

After watching the small sideshow of what they did we didn't have enough time, so we didn't get to do them,  so we ended up singing the National Anthem in the end. Sam W, Monique and I had to leave early, because we hadn't done the devices.

The learner quality that I showed was not talking through the whole assembly.

The leadership that I showed was being a good role model in assembly.

Being a good house leader

For the past Week we had Athletics and I had to be a good leader to the Kauri team, because I am a leader. For the past week we have ups and downs with the weather. On Wednesday it was a great day to do athletics.
The Actives that we did was Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Long/Short Sprints and High Jump with House relays and class relays.

These are the placing that I got in the Athletics for school.
Shot Put - 3rd, by only 1cm with Sam W who got 4th.
Long Jump - 2nd, I jumped 3meters+.
Discus - 2nd, with a throw of 15 m 30cm.
High Jump - 1st equal, with Sam L with a jump of 1meter 31cm. (High score)
Long Sprints - 1st, I think I did really well in Long sprints.
Long Distance 1st, I think I did really well in long distance, because I really love to run.

On Tuesday we had Sprints, House Relays and Class Relays. We only got to do the last actives and then we did house relays which the house captains were already in and other students from my house.
This is the placings for the House relays
Miro came Last, Rimu came 3rd, Kowhai came 2nd and Rata came 1st.
We didn't get to do the class relays, but I really enjoyed doing the good things.

The leaner quality that I showed was not talking when someone else is speaking

The leadership that I showed was sitting down when Mr Forman was speaking at any time.

Student Council

On Wednesday I didn't have Student Council, because of doing my long distance. Next week I really want to go to Student Council, because I usually have something on and I don't want to miss another Student Council meeting.
What I found out from the Minutes, was what are the dates going to be for pet day.
These are the things that we got down on the Minutes.

Themed mufi day Ideas
Sports/Sports Star

Other Ideas
Shared lunch
Free time
Arts and Crafts
Lolly scramble
Water Activities
Movies
Sponge the Staff
Games day/station
BBQ/sausage sizzle

These are the ideas that that Kyla got down on the Minutes that we got from the other class. We should have had a meeting with each class about what we did in Student Council, but we had a Circle time, so we didn't have anytime, but I think we will be able to do it next week.
Next week I am wanting to go to Student Council, because A) I really need to go, because it is must to do it and B) because it is my last week for blogging.

The learner quality that I show was turning up to the meeting, because I need to do Student Council.

The leadership that I showed in Student Council is to not talk while someone is talking.

Student Council

On Wednesday we didn't have Student Council , but we talked about last week was what could we have for the end of this term.

Next time we have a meeting we have to give our ideas to the Student Councilors so Kyle can type them up on the laptop and so after Kyla has done that we can start choosing which ones that we can choose, but Mrs Trotter has to agree on it and shouldn't cost anything to do.

The leaner quality that I showed in Student Council is to give ideas to the group and not be a passenger.

The leadership that I showed was always listening to who ever is speaking.

On Monday we had another full school assembly. Once I walked into the hall I went straight for the seats at the front. Once everyone had been seated, we start off by singing our school Waiata with the music in the background and doing the actions.

After singing the Waiata we go onto the other important things like certificates. I didn't get a certificate, but I sat quietly waiting for the certificates finish. After getting through all of the certificate we finish off by singing our National Anthem by Mr M playing the guitar, Sam W and I had to leave early, because we had to do the device so we couldn't stay for long.

The learner quality that I showed was I was seated ready for Mrs Trotter to start.

The leadership that I showed was always listening to who ever is speaking which could be a student or a teacher.

Technology

On Tuesday we had Technology and I couldn't wait to get back to designing my Kitchen. When my bus got to Lincoln I walked to class which was Textiles/Design. Once I was ready I got a pen and waited for the teacher to come and unlock the class door.

When I got into the class I went straight to do the roll and get a set near my friends. I was really excited to start, because we had been away for 2 weeks and I was wanting to come back so quick so I could do more of my designing.

The things that I did in my design on Tuesday was hot glue some stuff that was falling off the wall. After doing that I decided to make a wall with this wood stuff and hot glue it on. I had to find the right wood so it wouldn't look weird. After finding all of the right wood I cut them up to be the right size and then I hot glued them to my Kitchen wall.

The leaner quality that I showed was turning up on time to class.

The leadership that I showed was doing the right thing.

On Wednesday I had student council. When I got to the hall were I had to be I just walked in and got a place to sit which was the fall. What we talked about was what things could we have at school for the end of Term 4 and ideas of that can't brake the bank that's what Mrs Trotter said in the meeting.

Here is a link to the ideas that we talked about since the first Student Council Meeting.
Student Council Minutes

These are the ideas that Kyla has been writing down so that we don't have to write them down. These ideas are from all different class from years 4 all the way to year 8's.

On Thursday we got the class together and got them to give us ideas about what things can we have in our last term like a full school water fight and other ideas. We had to do it on Thursday, because we didn't have time to do on Wednesday.

The leaner quality that I showed was always turning up on time.

The leadership that I showed was contributing to group discussion.

Being a good house leader (Distinction badge)

Being a good house leader

On Monday we had a full school assembly. Once I got to the hall I walked down the middle to get to the front where I sit in full school assembly. After I got to the front I sat in one of the seats and sat still waiting to start the assembly. When every class was in the hall we got started, by singing our Waiata. When we sing the school song the leaders don't do the action, because the juniors could get it mixed up on which way to go and how to do the action so we don't do them.

Once we finish the school song we go onto something else like doing the certificates and what has been going on in the classrooms. After doing the certificates we finish the assembly off with singing our National Anthem. This assembly was a shorter assembly, because it was a Welcome back assembly, so it was shorter then the other full school assembly.

The leaner quality that I showed was being quiet when someone is speaking

The leadership that I showed was being a good role model for the juniors.

Being a good house leader

On Monday we had a Kauri assembly. Once it was the end of the day it was time to go to our kauri assembly. I was not looking forwards to sitting in a hall for around half hour to an hour, but I do what we do on the board. When my class got to the hall we had to be in our lines and in our spots. I personally do not like having spots for assembly's and for sitting down in class.

Celebrations Assembly
We also had a Celebration Assembly for the end of term 3 on Friday . In this assembly the leader's get to sit at the front again, because we have to be good role models and, because were leader's. We had to sing our National Anthem first then we went on to something different.

One of the things I had to do was when I sit at the front I have to role model to the younger students so they know that to listen to who is speaking e.g Mrs Trotter, Mrs Martin or any of the leaders. In this assembly we had to say Goodbye to Mrs Smith who has been teaching over right years and is leaving us to do something different. After we finished it off by singing our school Waiata with the the actions. The boys say that we shouldn't do the action, because of the little kids in front of us, but we do then anyway.

The leaner quality that I showed was always doing the right thing.

The leadership that I showed was role modeling to the juniors is everything.

On Tuesday I had Technology.  When I got to Lincoln I went to my class which was Design /Textiles. Once I got to Design /Textiles I put my bag away in a cubbyhole and got a pen out. Monique and I got into the class and I went to save a seat for us 4 and Monique did the roll for me. Once everybody was in class we started off by listening to the teacher on what to do, after that we started.

The thing that we did first was make our design. In my other blog post I told you that we were making a house, but separate and I'm making a Kitchen and the first thing  I had to do was cut out the cardboard and then sellotape it up so it could look like a kitchen but you can see in side it (It has four sides 1. for the bottom and the other 3. for the sides). Once I finished that I help Sam W and then went onto designing our part of the house.
I have not finished my design and I was really sad, because we won't be back in 3 weeks because of our holiday and I can't wait to get back to designing my Kitchen.

Blog Post title
WALT apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

WALT apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

Improvisation TECHNIQUES that I have used successfully are: Always say yes, and carry on with the scene.

Improvisation TECHNIQUES that I would like to have more practice at: Is being spontaneous, and coming up with things on the spot.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was playing the games
because, they were a fun way to get involved in drama.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning
was getting involved because, I didn't like getting up in front of people and doing drama.

My next step/ something I need to work on further in improvisation is, getting more in depth because, I don't go all out.

My favourite improvisation game was Doorbell because, it was a fun and I going to miss playing the Doorbell game in drama.

On Wednesday  I had Student Council. When I got to Student Council the first thing that Hannah and Jack do is take the roll to see who is here or not here like if a class is not here then someone would go and get then.
Another thing that we do is if someone is speaking they have to have this Red Phone box toy in there hand so then can speak and give ideas and if someone else speaks they could get a strike.

After Student Council,  it said on the board that we were supposed to have talked to the class about what we had talked in Student Council, but we didn't and I wanted to know, maybe, because we didn't have enough time to do it, so we didn't.

The learner quality that I showed was always coming to Student Council.

The leadership that I showed was always contributing to group discussion.

Design a botany logo for a T-shirt

I chose to do this one, because I really wanted to design a logo for a t-shirt and I did do that, but I didn't get to put it on a t-shirt.

Here is my design of the T-shirt logo.
In Black and White and the other one is when I'd coloured it in.

Keep at least two different types of plants growing indoors using improvised containers ( Science Badge)

Science Badge Part 15 (1 Star)

Keep at least two different types of plants growing indoors using improvised containers.

I chose to grow a flower plant and a vegetable plant. The flower plant is called a Hollyhock and the vegetable plant I chose was a pumpkin.

The Hollyhock seed came from an old plant in the garden when I collected seeds for my seed collection and the pumpkin seed I saved from a pumpkin that we were given by our neighbours.

For my improvised container I chose to use old lemonade bottles. I cut them in half so that I could make a little green house. It was good to see the process of the water cycle that I'd learnt in science. Because the pot had a sort of lid on it, it meant that the bottle stayed warm inside when the sun was shining on it, which caused the water to evaporate and keep the soil damp.

These photos show my little green houses

Koru Games

Koru Games

The sport that I decided to do was Netball, because I have played netball for a long time and it would be fun to play netball with all of my friends.

Two of my highlights was
1. Getting to play different position, because I always play GD on a Saturday
2. Was winning most of my games.

I am proud of coming 6th, because this was my first time playing in a different team.

Some advice on Koru games for next years y7's
Is to have fun and it is not just to win a medal and when you get back to school you can tell that you even play Koru games.

Today was another full school assembly. Once the class got to the hall I went straight up and sit at the front of the stage, that is where I sit every full school assembly. Once I sat down, I waited quietly so everybody was ready to start.

The thing that we start off was singing our  school Waiata. After sing that with the action we went onto doing the certificates e.g Bucket Fillers awards, Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates and Principle awards.

Mr Ladbrook and Mrs O were handing the Certificates for the Kauri and my brother Jack was one of then to get his Bronze today. Last full school assembly, Jack didn't get his bronze, because his class were at swimming, so that is why he got his today. Next we did the Silvers, I was one of the people to get there sliver awards and I was really happy to get my silver, because I just got my bronze last full school assembly.

After doing the certificates we went onto seeing what was happening in room 19 in there learning. In buddy reading one of the things is finding out things about what they would like in there junior playground to come in the future, so we found out in assembly lot's of ideas that the juniors want in there new playground.
The last thing we did was sing our National anthem.

The learner quality that I showed was listening to the speaker e.g Room 19.

The leadership that I showed was showing that I was proud to get my Silver certificate.

On Wednesday day I didn't have Student Council. The year 7/8 didn't have Student Council, because of Koru Games. One of the things that I need to remember next week is to come on time I am usually a  bit late, but that before Mrs Trotter get there. The time that we have to be at Student Council, is when we're usually doing maths at that point of time in class and the other Student Councilors have to remind me to be there on time and if the others are not there I have to remind them too!

Another thing I should do at Student Council is contribute to group discussion, because I sometimes don't do that. Always after a Student Council meeting we have to tell the teacher's ao we can talk to the class about what we talked in Student Council. About talking to the class I am usually picking people to say Ideas or write the ideas down , I hate speaking in front of people so I do that job.

The leaner quality I show was to always doing the right thing.

The leadership that I showed was contributing to group discussion.

For the next three days the year 7/8s get to go to different places to play against different teams for fun. I am in Netball and the netball A team get to go down to Lincoln netball courts.

13th September 2016

First day of netball was great we had beaten everybody on the first day. The team that we versed was Rolleston One they were good but we had beaten them 18-9 to us. Next team that were versed was Burnham they were good to, but not good enough for us we had beaten them 32-0 to us. The last game of the day we versed was St Martins 33-1 to us.

14th September 2016

This was the second day of Koru Games playing netball. The first team that we played was against Westland HS  Two and we had beaten them. The score was 32- 3 to us. Our second game was playing against Ellsemere Coll Two and the score was 17- 4 to us again.  Our third game against was Belfast which I didn't like playing against and we did lose against them and the score was 15-12 we had lost by 3 points. The last and finally game that we played was against Rawhiti beach and we had won against then 26-1 to us.

15th September 2016

Today we started at 10am playing against Ashburton Int and we had lost to them by 2 point the score was 13-11 to them. Our second game was against Breens and we bet them by 10 points and the score was 18-8 to us. The last game that we played today was against Balmacewen 26-6 to us it was a good day to play netball, but we did our best.

The team that came 1st was Hillview then Ashburton Int and then it was Ellsemere. We had come in 6th and that was better then last year and it was my first time doing Netball in Koru Games and I had a really nice three days of Koru Games.

The learner quality that I showed was always never giving up.

The leadership that I showed was doing my best to play.

On Monday we had a Kauri assembly. When I walked in I had to go and sit in my assembly spot. Mr Ladbrook and Miss O gave us sitting plans for assembly, but in Full school assembly the leader's get to sit at the front, so that means I don't have to sit in a spot.

I sit next Reia and Jonathan in a Kauri assembly, but the leaders get to sit next to anybody who is a leader.

The thing that we did first was watch our video's back, but the speakers weren't working, because the speakers weren't plugged in, but then we finally got them to work and then we watch the video again with sound. Monique and Sam W video was first and then Sam L and I's video was next and I didn't want to watch and listen to my voice.

After we watched the video we went onto something different. What we did was get a green piece of paper which had thing's on that had stuff about the Environment to do.

I had finished doing the activity and then we had to design what we were going to do. What we are doing is making a house Sam L, Sam W, Monique and I are making a house together, but we're only aloud to have a pair, so we are just going to make part of the house. I'm making the Kitchen, Sam L and Monique are making bedrooms and Sam W is making the lounge.

The learner quality that I showed was giving group discussion.

Life Cycle of a Pumpkin Seed (Science badge)

Life Cycle of a Pumpkin

2** Keep a diary of the growth of a named seed for 4 weeks.

I have decided to do a life cycle on a pumpkin, because
A) It would be cool to see the stages of a pumpkin seed and
B) what happens in the life cycle of a Pumpkin seed.

Here is a picture of the life cycle of a pumpkin.

Stage 3. The leafs are starting to grow
Stage 4. Growing more
Stage 5. Blooming
Stage 6. Turning into a small Pumpkin
Stage 7. Grown fully ready to eat!
Stage 8. Doing the life cycle again

I decided to do this, because I have already started growing a pumpkin at home. The plant is really big. So far it is at stage three. I got a pumpkin seed from a whole pumpkin, which my next door neighbor gave to us. She grows pumpkin's in her garden and I thought why can't I try and grow a pumpkin plant for myself.
