Librarian (Distinction Badges)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Librarian

This morning I was trying to find Mrs Ward, because I needed to do one more turn of librarian to be able to write my last blog. Just as we were talking outside the office, Mrs Ward came around the corner. I asked if I could help in the library,  but I knew the library was officially closed for the year. Mrs Ward is so kind, because she knows I've been trying really hard to earn my distinction badge and she said that if I came back at lunchtime she would let me help her. Reia was there too and she said she would help as well, even though she wasn't trying to earn her badge.

So at lunchtime Reia, Kyla and I went back to the library and Mrs Ward was in there and she had a job for us to do. So Kyla and I had to scan books. Mrs Ward had already scanned from letters A-F and we had to carry on and did G, H, I, J & K. So I was getting the books from the shelf and giving them to Kyla to scan and then she'd give them back to me and I'd put them back on the shelf. Reia was doing the younger kids books at the same time. It's a huge job that Mrs Ward has to do on her own and it's quite hard to do. I hope we really helped Mrs Ward today.

I might ask Mrs Ward if she needs us to help again before the end of the year, because she has a lot of books to look after. She did give us another job, which is to find 28 books that the girls & boys classes have taken from the library that haven't been scanned out. We've got to get everyone to check where they are. They might be in peoples tote boxes.

Technology (Distinction Badges)

Distinction Badge Must-do

Technology

Today in technology I finished my box bedroom. I was very behind, but this week I managed to catch up and I finished it all today. I was able to bring it home on the bus and I had to carry it all the way home in the wind. I was a bit worried about it, but here are some photos to show you my design.

I used egg cartons to make seats, I use tin foil to make a mirror, I used a lot of popsicle sticks. I used them to make a desk, chairs and underneath the TV. I also made a coffee table and I made my own cushions and pillows out of different fabrics. I made a bunk bed with a table underneath, which meant I had to design a ladder to get up to the bed. It's got two doors and I used plastic to make it look like I'd got real windows. I like the really long window that I designed and the tall windows on the other wall. I even had carpet on the floor, made out of fabric with a flower pattern on it and a can of drink on the table made out of a straw.

I really enjoyed designing this bedroom and I'm glad that I actually got to finish it completely.

Computer Duty (Distinction Badges)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Computer Duty

This week I hope to show the new year 7's how to be a computer monitor. When they come into the seniors next year they are going to have to learn to do all the different leadership roles. When I first started in the seniors last year I didn't know anything about all the leadership roles and how many jobs there are to do at Oaklands school.

Hopefully Mr Ladbrook or Miss O'Connor will pick me to teach the new year 7'2 for 2016 about our 40 Chrome Books and how to take care of them. I don't think they have a lot of chrome books in year 6. They will probably be quite surprised to see how many we have. I am going to do my BYOD again next year, because I might like to take in my tablet and phone, just in case all the laptops are being used, or maybe the laptops won't have been charged properly one day.

It's going to be sad that this might be my last week of computer duty. I hope that I get to do it next year, because I like to look after them. I think we've looked after them really well and I don't think any of them will need repairing in the holidays. I think when we turn them off for the last time next week, we should probably turn them all off properly, then they can be charged quicker.

Kapa Haka (Distinction Badges)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Kapa Haka

On Saturday I was performing for the Te Hapua Learning Center, which is the New Library. When I got there at the library at 12:00 ish I was in my Kapa Haka uniform ready to perform to the people that were watching us do our Kapa Haka.

When we walked into the new learning center doors, we went to the right, we did not go to the left, because that is the library and the performing room was on the right side when you walk through the big glass doors. We waddled  through the hallway in our tight skirts trying not to fall over. We finally got to the room where people were already performing and I think one of them was Molly's mum performing with different people doing a jump jam type dance.

When it was our turn to go on I was really excited that we were performing to people and my parents were there in the crowd somewhere. When we walked onto the stage it was bigger then we thought it was going to be, but it didn't matter, what did matter was our sound/volume.

When we started, Hannah was able to talk to the people about the songs that we were going to sing in the performing room. The songs that we sang were the songs that we did at the Oakland's school Gala.

When we finished all of our songs the audience clapped for us, it was really good and I think we sang really well, especially because it was on a Saturday when we could have been siting watching T.V. When we walked out after the kapa haka, we went into another room. The choir group had to stay in there in that room and I had to stay in my Kapa Haka uniform, because we didn't have any time to get changed into our choir shirts.

Choir (Distinction Badges)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Choir

On Saturday I was performing for the Te Hapua Learning Center the New Library. We were waiting in a room after performing Kapa Haka. I had to stay in my Kapa Haka uniform, because I had just been performing for Kapa Haka and it would have taken too long to get changed.

When we started my parents were watching me and the choir group. Before we started Miss Harris put us into four lines. After we had done that, it was time for us to perform to a group of people plus parents.

Our first song was our one that we always start with which was Hallelujah, and I think that the volume was really good, because it was inside. It was hard at the Gala, because we were outside.  After we sang Hallelujah our second song was Money Money Money. It was really cool when Mr McCallum  was playing the piano, but one time Sophie played the drums for Money Money Money and that was a really cool thing that we did.

Our final song was Adiemus, it is a really good song to show our range of voices, the audience clapped loudly at the end.

Computer Duty (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Computer Duty

I do computer duty all week and I'm still doing it this week, even though we have started to slow down a bit. So it's still really important to be a computer monitor, because everyone still relies on us to have the computers ready everyday.

It's going to be interesting when the year 6 kids come to join our class next week, because they don't have Chrome Books. I hope that they think they're as good as we do. They might not know how much work we do on them and why it's important to look after them.

I don't know what we would do if we had a power failure in the night, because we could get to school and find that the chrome books hadn't been charged. Every time we plug the laptops back in at night, we always check that the cables don't get tangled up and then we have to check that the red power light comes on. Then we know that we have done our job properly.

It's so important to take care of all the 40 chrome books and next week I'm hoping to show the new year 6's what we do as a computer monitor.

Librarian (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Librarian

On Friday at Lunch time I helped out in the library. When Mrs Ward was not in there Reia and I went into the library, because Reia is on librarian and I am a regular person that goes and help Mrs Ward out a lot.

There was about 70 people that were librarians at the start of the year, but now there is about 20 people that are doing librarian regularly at the end of the year and I am one of them that is still a regular librarian. I would like to be a head librarian maybe next year, because it would help me a lot by being a leader and I would be able to go to the library to help out all I like if I need to get a book out or just help out Mrs Ward. I'd also like to teach new librarians on what is most helpful to Mrs Ward, because it isn't just about sitting at the desk.

When I was in the library I got a lot of books to put away so I wouldn't have to go back. All the books I got were for the kids shelves. Most of them were really easy, but some of them were a little bit harder to find to put away. When I had finished my books, I went back to get a smaller pile of books and they were the little kids books again. I put all of them on the shelves quite quickly. When Mrs Ward had  finally got to the library, there was a lot of people at the door waiting to come in, but they can't come in, because they are not librarians like me! I'm so lucky that Mrs Ward trusts me to be in there when she's not there. When Mrs Ward saw me she said "hello" and I said "hello" back:-)

After We had all finished all of the books Mrs Ward had a job for all of us it was scanning bar-codes and you had to watch the bar-code come up on the computer or we would have to go through the books all over again we had done that it was so annoying that we had to go through it you can get very annoyed.

In the library it is nice to talk to someone like Mrs Ward and it is easy to put the books away. It is nice when Mrs Ward lets me help her in the library at  morning tea, when the library is actually only open at lunch time. It is nice for her to do it. I like the library and I like helping out Mrs Ward.

Choir (Distinction Badges

Distinction Badge Can-do

Choir

Yesterday at school I was performing for choir. When we had got change out of our formal clothes we got into mufti that is what Miss Harris said that we could.  When we started it was really late and it was the last performance of the night.

Our first song of choir was Hallelujah, Hallelujah is my favourite song in choir that we have sang. We also had sang Money Money Money it is really fun to sing Money Money Money I like it too and our last song was Adiemus. Adiemus it is a really new song that Miss Harris have taught us (Choir Group) and I also like that song too. When we were singing Hallelujah the sun was so bright and it was also windy at oaklands school.

When we had finish it was really cool to be singing in front of people it is so nice to sing to people in the outside and I think all of that practices did us all good, because it sound really good and we are also doing a performing on Saturday also which is at the New Library in Halswell it is really good and it has a library and a swimming pool outside and a cafe, I have already been to the new library after school one day and it is really cool to be in a new library, because the other library was small, but this library is really big in my perspective.

Canterbury Athletics Day (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Must-do

 Canterbury's Athletics Day

On Wednesday I went down to Ashburton with my mum and sister to watch me and other people. When we got to Ashburton an 1 hr away from home we went to ashburton center that is were I was racing. When we finally found a car park space we got out of the car and went to the racing arraer. When we walk through a gate we were looking for a Oakland's school flag I intently found the Oakland's school flag we were near a big tree with shade it was really nice to have shade it was 35 degrees and now wind at all.

For my first thing I had was long distinct it was at 9:00 it was so early in the morning, but it was finally here, "On your marks, Get seat, Bang the gun went, as I ran it was so hot running in this heat. When my race had finished I had come in about 15-20 place it was pretty good.

My next race was at a 11:10 it was 2 hrs from my last race. When it was time to go on to the race track I was so scared, when we had sat down for the ladys to call our names out and then we would right two numbers on our hand. When My name had been called out my race number was 2/2 heat 2 line 2 I was right near the gun I was so not happy to be near the gun it was so scary. When I had finish my sprints I was so happy that I got somewhere and it was a really collse race and I might have got 3rd or 4th and you had to get 1st or 2nd to go to the finals.

I think that I did pretty well and really good in my races and I hope to go back next year and maybe get a little better at my scoring

Kapa Haka (Distinction Badge)

Kapa Haka

Yesterday was the Gala and I was performing for the Kapa Haka group at 4:30. It was 4:20 when I got to school for the gala and we had to meat at room 26 and room 24, girls were in room 24 and boys were in room 26 when I had put down my bag I had to change my skirt it was meant to be on the left I had my skirt on my right.

When it was time to perform we had to be in our lines, the boys were on the truck and the girls were on some blocks of wood and were in the our lines as if is like in the hall, but outside. Our first song was our Oakland's school song with action we had to get it perfect, because as that the standard we are aiming for. After singing our school song we had Tar Hui Hui which was with the poi, I think that I went pretty well with my poi, but I think I need a bit more practice with getting it right.

After we sang Tar Hui Hui it was Pai Ma, Pai Ma is a really easy song to sing and do the action. When we sang Pai Ma we sang Whakataka Te Hau with the Haka. When we sing Whakataka Te Hau we have the Haka After it, but this time all of the boys had there tops off, but the girls could not look behind, because it would make oaklands school look bad, but I was happy that my Mum videoed the Haka, because my brother Jack was doing the haka at only 9 years old he was so good, but the younger boys need some help two.

My dad didn't quite arrive in time to see Jack doing the Haka, but he said he could hear us whilst he was parking his motorbike on Cobra Street and that we were really loud, which is one of the things we try hard to do.

Librarian

On Thursday I had Librarian on a hot sunny day at Oakland's school.

When I ran to the library it was extremely hot, but I finally got to the library. When I walked in I went to the trolley of books there was a big stack of them to put on the shelf.  Sharna was also at the library and a new girl too and they were doing their jobs. It was pretty hot in the library, I am so happy that I did not take my jacket to the library, because last week I had left it in the library. It was there all night and I didn't even know it was in there. I was certain that it was in the classroom. I had to wait till the morning when luckily Jack P remembered it was in the library and found it for me. I was extremely happy that I got it back.

When I had put all of the books away I had asked Mrs Ward if she wanted me to help with any thing, but when I went to the trolley there was no more books. So I went to help the new girl, but when I went to her she had been putting the wrong books on the wrong shelf. We have yellow tags and white tags, and she was puting the yellow tags on the white tag shelf. So I showed her how we put them away properly and then helped her sort them out together.

Kapa Haka (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Kapa Haka

Today after Te Reo I had Kapa Haka in the morning till 11:30. We are practicing hard for the gala and we are putting a lot of effort into it. We are also going to be singing at the opening of the new Halswell Community building. I can't wait for it to open, because I really miss going to the library and it will also be fun to go back to the pool in the summer time.

I think at the gala we will be singing on the outside stage or on the big trailer. Maybe the boys will be on the trailer and the girls will be in front. I have performed in the kapa haka group at least two times, but this will be my brothers first time. He will be performing the haka, which is going to be pretty interesting watching the new ones perform. I actually won't be able to turn round and watch him, so I hope my mum or dad video him doing the haka. Hopefully they will video me too so that I can watch it later.

My brother has already performed the haka to the senior citizens and it was his first time to wear the black shorts and the red top. He was really proud to wear it and I was very proud of him too.

We might only have one more practice before the gala performance, but maybe two if we practice on Wednesday to get really perfect.

Choir (Distinction Badge)

Choir

Today I had choir on a hot sunny day. When I had signed in I went to the music room to practice for the Gala and the community day. When I walked in the choir group had been singing Hallelujah, so I started singing with the choir group.

After that we sang Adiemus, it is a really good song to sing and we might sing it at the Gala. After we had sang Adiemus Mr M gave us a book of Christmas carols, that I think we could be singing to the old people at the rest home. When we had got through one song we kept going. There was a lot of Christmas songs, like Snoopy's Christmas, Jingle Bells Rock, Santa's Coming to Town and a few more which I can't remember. When we go to the rest home, we will probably take our song books with us, because I don't think we can learn all the new songs in time. I think we are having a whole day of travelling round different rest homes to sing to lots of old people. I'm really looking forward to it. We will probably go to the one in Aidanfield, but I'm not sure where else we will go to.

On Monday we had our S.L.C. (Student Led Conference) Oakland's school finished at 2:00 because my brothers S.L.C was at 2:30 and my S.L.C was at 3:00 so he had 30 mins, but they did 15 mins.
I think that I did pretty well on Monday I think that I will get a good score for year 7.

Here is my S.L.C slide show.

Computer Duty

It's a really important job being a computer monitor, because there are about 90 plus students needing the laptops for the day. We are not a school that makes students buy and bring their own in. This is great, because it means we don't have to carry them in our bags and have the responsibility of looking after them ourselves.

I like being a computer monitor, because it makes me better at taking care of a laptop. Hopefully in the future I will have my own laptop that I will be able to take to school. One day I think we won't have books, just a laptop in our bags.

When all the laptops are out, and everyone is ready to start work, there is always a mad rush for the laptops. It would be great if we got all forty laptops to work on, but I think the boys wouldn't like that.

Librarian

Today at the library Kyla and I helped Mrs Ward with doing something for her in the library at morning tea.

What Kyla and I helped with was that we scanned a lot of book in the cloakroom, but we did get through two shelf's.
Kyla was scanning the books and I gave the books to Kyla and I also put away the books on the shelf's in the cloakroom.

We had scanned a lot of books. When we were scanning the books we had to look if it's bar-cod was coming up on the computer, but if it didn't we would have to go through every book to find which book that did not get scanned by Kyla ,it would take so long.

One time Kyla scanned a book three times so we had to get rid of two of the bar-cods so we had to be shore that we delete the right one or would go through the books all over again so it would take so long to do it, it would take us all through the bell :-o. When the bell rang Kyla and I had to tell Mrs Ward that we had to go to class and we would have to come back tomorrow to finish it off.

Kapa Haka

Today in the afternoon, I performed to the Senior Citizens for Kapa Haka and Choir. When we started our performance we had to get changed in our small bathroom, when we were in the bathroom we had put on the top and the Kapa Haka skirt it was not nice to wear.

When the first performance started we had sang the Oakland's school song and I think that the older people liked it very much, after that song had finish we sang Pai ma it was a really good song, we had also had performed with our poi's the year 8's had to do long poi, then after that one we had sang our finally song with the Haka,  Whakataka Te Hau. When we had finished the Kapa Haka and ever thing else we came around the old people to ask if they wand a cup of tea or coffee I had asks an old man if he wanted coffee or tea, he wanted coffee with milk no sugar and when we were going around we also had to give them something to eat there was a lot of then's that they could have.

When everything had finish the bell had rang for home time, but I had stayed to help put away the chairs and to clean up, but I did not have time to clean up, because I had to go home. I really enjoyed it, It was really fun to watch the performance and see lot's of cool things.

Senior Citizens Performance

Choir (Distinction Badge)

Choir

Yesterday at school I had choir in the music room at lunchtime, to practice Money Money Money and Hallelujah. This was an extra practice so that we were ready to sing in front of the
Senior Citizens.

It did not take long to practice, so we still had a lunchtime. After we had sang Money Money Money we sang Hallelujah, I love singing Hallelujah. When we had finished singing both of them Miss Harris said we should sing Adiemus and that we should also sing that to the Senior Citizens.

Today in the afternoon, I performed to the Senior Citizens for Kapa Haka and Choir. We did Kapa Haka first and had to get changed really fast back into our school uniforms to be ready to sing. We didn't get to wear our choir shirts this time. When It was our time to go and perform in front of the Senior Citizen's we had to get in a good line, but it was not very good, when we finally walked in through our hall doors we were in the lines that Miss Harris did for us.

The song that we had sung first was  Money Money Money, Mr M was playing the piano so that we now what the tune was and Miss Harris was helping us go high or lower for Money Money Money. Our next song was Hallelujah it was my favourite song to sing and I think the older people liked it to. When we were singing Hallelujah Hannah, Monique, Sarah and Jackie played on there Guitars and Mr M played the Piano for Hallelujah.

When all of the performance had finished we had to around to ask the older people if they wanted  a cup of tea or coffee. When we were also going around we had plates of food there was all different food to eat, when we had finished Miss O ask if any one wanted something to eat since they have been singing or helping. It was a very good day to finish a Friday off.

Computer Duty

On Monday I had Computer Duty. Most of the time the girl computer monitors look after them, because they are in our room. There are four girl monitors and four boy monitors. We aren't given a different day to do it on, it's just who gets there first and because i really want to earn my Distinction badge, I really try hard to do it as many times as I can.

Sometimes the boys forget to come through and pick up there laptops in the morning, because they are usually playing soccer. So we sometimes help to take them through to their room. We are helping them a lot by doing this, because it means they can get on with their work straight away.

At the end of the day, the boys do remember to bring their laptops through and we are there to help them put them away.

Technology (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Must-do

Technology

On Tuesday I was in design.  In design we made a box that was our house / bedroom. We first had to trace out our template, which Mrs Scott showed us five examples of.

Then after we had cut out our templates we used a craft knife to cut out our doors and windows which was hard, but I had finally got the hang of it.

When I had cut out my windows and doors, Mrs Scott wanted us to come and have a look at what we had to do next. Mrs Scott showed us how to make wallpaper out of paper. She said that we could do any colour and then after that we went back to our desk so that we could get on with our designs.

I got out all my materials, like pens, pencils, scissors and stuff. I then went to get some coloured paper. The colours that I got were pink and blue. I didn't have much time left to make my wallpaper, because i was still focusing on my windows and doors. I'm looking forward to designing my wallpaper next week.

Computer Duty

Today in the morning I did computer duty. When I walked into room 24 I put my face up on the board, which is our way of doing the roll. When I'd done that, I went to ask Grace Channings if she could help me put the laptops on the side ready for school. She said yes to helping me, so i took the laptops out and she put them on the table.

In the afternoon I helped Reia put the laptops away. So when Reia was putting the laptops in the charging box, I was putting them in the right order, but I can only stack them three high.

When we put the laptops away, we have to put the laptops in the right charging unit or we would get them in the wrong slot. We have to put the right charging cords in the laptop the right way, or we could get the cords mixed's up with the boys laptops cords.

Athletics Day (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Must-do

Athletics Day

I really look forward to athletics week. I was getting really upset, because it kept raining, but finally the sun came out on Friday.

My two first activities was long jump and discus. I really like doing long jump, because last year I got second and I was able to go and do it at the zones. This year I got second again, which I'm really proud of, and hopefully I'll be able to go to Hillmorton again for long jump. My best jump was 3.77m. I can't remember what I jumped last year, but hopefully I'll jump even further. Mya jumped even further and did 3.93m and Sam Laing came third with 3.56m.

I didn't do so well in discus. I came third last year, but maybe my arms aren't as strong as they were last year, but discus isn't really one of my strong events. I can't wait till Monday when I can do high jump and my favorite one which is Long Distance!

Computer Duty

Every day of the week I do computer duty. This means I have to be at school early, because I am one of a team of four who set up the Chrome Books. I have been doing this duty since we got the 40 Chrome Book Acers. We got them at the beginning of term three.

In the group is Samara, Isabella, Reia and me. This week I got to put them out on Thursday. The Chrome Books are all kept inside a big cupboard on wheels that charges the Chrome Books. I usually put the Chrome Books away at the end of the day, because they all have to go back on charge over night. This sometimes makes me a bit late out of class.

Kapa Haka (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Kapa Haka

I wasn't actually able to go to Kapa Haka today, because I was at the Horncastle Arena doing my choir practice. I wish I could have done both, but I can't be in two places at one time!

My brother Jack went to Kapa Haka and he told me that he was finally able to do the Haka and he is only eight years old. He's always wanted to do the Haka. I can't wait to see him doing it next time at the practice session. He told me they also did poi practice and they sang Pai Ma.
It was the Light Festival on Saturday, but I was really unsure whether we were suppose to be performing or not, because Mr Brown kept saying he'd send a email out to our parents, but we didn't get one. So I didn't actually go, because I didn't have any information about what time I had to be there. It was a shame, because I would have liked to have performed.

Choir (Distinction Badge)

Distinction Badge Can-do

Choir

On Friday it was choir as usual, but this was not a normal practice session, because in there were parents in the music room ready to go with us to the Horncastle Arena. It was finally our day to go and have a practices in the arena, which was very exciting.

When Miss Harris had done the roll, she asked if anyone wanted to go to the toilet as it was best to go now whilst we were still at school, because we couldn't wander off when we got to the arena. When I had come out of the toilets, the whole choir group was out side, so I didn't have to walk back to the music room.
I sat on the bus with Sharna and when we got there the practice session went well. All of the other schools were there too. There was around 1,400 of us singing, so that was a lot of kids to organise.
Dad took to me to the arena in the evening and we found Mrs Harris and I went straight through with all the Oakland's choir, all wearing our nice white shirts and ties. I found my place to sit and then we sang our first song that all 1,400 kids, plus the audience sang together. It was God of Nations. We always sang all the songs together, except for the special choir who sang parts of a song on their own.
It was a really fun experience, but I was really tired when I got home at about 9.45pm.

This is a cool photo

On a rainy Thursday I did my librarian duties. When I had come back from choir I went to the library to do my job. Waiting on the trolley were some book's for me to put away. So I took most of them and went around the library, putting all the books back on the correct bookshelves. Sharna was already at the library when I got there, because she managed to get her choir shirt quicker than I did. She had already put some of the books back on the shelves.
When I had put all of my books away, I said to Sharna, where was Monique? So Sharna decided to go and look for her. When Sharna came back with Monique, Sharna showed Monique that we had left her some books for her to put on the shelf.
When the bell rang, my group went around to tell the children in the library that it was closed. When they had all left, we were all able to go back to class.

On Friday after I'd put all my things away I went straight to the music room to do choir. Our warm up song was
Adiemus. We have been practicing our songs without our song books, so that we are ready to sing at the Horncastle Arena, which is next Friday. Mrs Harris usually checks to see if we're all there by taking the roll. She does it after the 9 o'clock bell, because that's when everyone is usually there. Then we sing through to 9.30. Some of us go back to class, but other people go straight to the hall to do Te Reo.

At morning tea Sharna offered to help me do the books in the library. Also Reia and Kyla came in to help. We all put books away and tidied up the shelves ready for the children coming in at lunchtime. Mrs ward was in there to begin with, but she went to the staff room, to have her morning tea, whilst we looked after the library. When she came back the bell had rung, but I stayed in there to say thanks for letting me do extra library duty to earn my excellence badge.

Kapa Haka

On Friday we practiced all five songs ready for when we perform. I think we are going to be performing at the opening of the new library. That's going to be so exciting.

I was reading my sister's Hillmorton news letter and saw that Hoon Hay and Our Lady Assumption schools got invited to their Marae and I also watched their Kapa Haka Cultural Festival performance.

Technology

This Tuesday at technology in textiles I made two door stops for my brother and sister so that their doors don't slam shut. They really like it when I make things for them and I like giving them things when I see them after school. I also helped Caity finish off her Star Bucks three part toy. It's good to help other people, because it means I'm still learning.

Kapa Haka

Today I had Kapa Haka. We got to choose between three songs and we had to put up our hands for what songs we wanted to sing. In the end we chose to sing Pai Ma and another song, but I'll have to ask Mr Brown or Mrs Baker how to spell it. I think we're practicing for the Light Festival, which I'm looking forward to going to.

Choir
Today I had choir.  We sang lot's of songs, they were really good songs. I really enjoy doing choir because I get to sing first thing in the morning and it is a really good way to start the day. It's good being part of a group like choir, because I get to sing with my friends and make new friends. Singing makes me feel happy:-)

Technology

On Tuesday we went to Lincoln primary school to do technology. When we got to Lincoln we had to take the long way round to get to sewing. It took so long to get there, but we got there in the end. When we put our bags down we walked in with our pencils cases and sat on our seats. Mrs Patterson took the roll and then asked us to thread our sewing machine's so that we could get started and not waste time, when we could be making our three part toy. I did finish making my toy. All I had to do was
*Hand sew on the top of my toy
*Then I stuffed the toy with stuffing which was very easy to do
*And then I had to cut out a circle the size of a cup, get some white thread and then start sewing on the bottom.
This is my three part toy!

Today I was on librarian. I had a lot of fun at the library because I got out two cool books called Geek Girl and Being Magdalene. Being Magdalene is one of the new books that Mrs Ward only got to show us today in class and the Geek Girl book is a really good series of books that I've been reading. I got was the second book called Model Misfit. When I was doing librarian we had a little girl called Kadence. She is in year 1 and she had come with Sharna. She wanted to look at the I Spy book, so Monique and I played I spy with Kadence, it was really fun.

At technology I had a fun day, because I made a really cool pillow and I also made a weatbag. The wheat bag was made out of blue and white fabric, one side was blue and the other was white. I had a lovely time making the wheat bag and the pillow at technology, which I'm now using at home.

Leadership Roles (Excellence Badge)

EXCELLENCE – MUST DO

Koru Games

On Tuesday and Wednesday I showed leadership values by being the team captain for the A Team Touch Rugby at the Koru Games. Sophie wasn’t playing for those two days, so Mr Ladbrook asked me to do it. I had to lead all the cheering and see the referee before the game to play paper scissors rock. If I won paper scissors rock, I got to have the ball to start first and chose which end we wanted. At the end of the game I had to check and sign the score card. I really enjoyed being team captain :-)

Kapa Haka (Excellence Badge)

EXCELLENCE – CAN DO

Kapa Haka

Today at Kapa Haka, we actually sang the songs properly with the poi and actions. We had practiced with the poi and I finally felt that I’d got it right. It’s a hard song, especially with the poi. I hope next week that I will get all the actions right and don’t mess up.
